✦ ABOUT ✦

About the project

braithology has been up and running for...

    info & frequently asked questions

    so... what exactly is braithology?
braithology is an alternate universe passion project created by alex (me). it is a collection of universes heavily based on ancient mythology and folklore. my own version or interpretation, if you will. all of the characters, locations, and myths are pulled directly from different mythos, except i have free will to do whatever i want with them. sometimes i stick very close to the original. sometimes i change it slightly or significantly. and sometimes i just scrap it entirely. i can add things, delete things, and fix things up to my liking. it's a fun way to combine my love of mythology and my knack for design, and it pushes me to new limits and inspires me to create things that i never would have thought of otherwise.
why did you start this project?
the origin of this project was actually accidental. october sixth, 2020, one fateful day. the time i have long forgotten, but the events are still clear. i was in english class, and we were going over some arbitrary myth in a mythology book we were given a few days prior. having run out of things to draw, i was kinda bored and wanted something relevant to doodle. and so i thought to myself, "what if i sketched some greek deities in my style? that would be fun for a bit." and thus, braithology was created. when i drew that first character, i never knew that this project would gain as much traction and meaning to me as it did. life really is full of surprises, isn't it?
where do you plan to go with this project?
honestly... i have no idea. right now, it's hovering solidly in the passion project airspace, and i've been wary of doing anything with it for fear of ruining the personal connection i have with it. i've considered multiple paths, including a webtoon and a video game, but nothing is really clicking with me and i'm afraid it will cause me to drop the project all together. so for now, i will just continue to create personal content related to it. i hope you can understand.

    braithology slang terms

here are some key terms and phrases that will be mentioned casually in braithology conversation and are helpful if you know what they mean.

    general terms

    • in canon = something that is true within braithology. i will never use this term in relation to og unless specified.

    • in og = reference to original mythology. a way to separate my aus from the original.

    character references

    • hot water = an alternate name for the ship hepheidon. started as a joke and evolved into a canon nickname.

    • the twins = apollo and artemis. if it is any other set of twins, i will specify (ex. "sleep and death twins" = hypnos and thanatos).

    • the ogs = not to be confused with "in og", this is referencing the six children of cronus and rhea. more specifically, zeus, poseidon, hades, hera, hestia, and demeter.

    phenomena

    • the skajord effect = when something i have changed in braithology contradicts or invalidates a plot point in a myth. named after the fake ship name for skadi and njord, who's relationship was invalidated due to me making skadi a minor.

    • the subway addict phenomenon = when a joke or meme surrounding a character turns into a canon trait. named after a nickname for hera, as her subway addiction evolved from an inside joke.

    • njord mitosis = a phenomenon in which immortals and ethereals can reproduce without a partner. does not apply to mortals.

    invincibility hierarchy

    • immortal = an entity who cannot die and represents or controls a thing, idea, or concept.

    • ethereal = an entity who cannot die but does not represent or control a thing, idea, or concept.

    • demi-god = the offspring of an immortal and a mortal. can only be killed by immortals or other demi-gods.

    • mortal = an entity who can be killed. or, more simply put, a human or humanoid.

    • android = a humanoid machine created or produced by alectronics. can be destroyed, not killed.
